The meeting was called to order at 3:00 p.m.
- The minutes of September 18, 2006 were approved as submitted.
- Update on Budget: The members discussed that there will be funds available to support new courses. An amount of USD 500,000 would be available to spend on the new courses.
- Gordon Rule Writing: Chair Potter has asked that David Frankel, Terri Flateby, and Joe Moxley draft a revision of USF's Gordon Rule Writing Policy. Only the communication section of the Gordon Rule has changed. It will then be taken to a faculty forum for review. There will be a faculty meeting on October 27, at the TECO conference hall, College of Education. It was discussed and recommended in the meeting, that the teachers of Gordon Rule courses will give their feedback.
- Discussion:
- There is a need to balance between competing imperatives for critical thinking and inquiry-based learning versus the drive for increased SCH and large classes. Agreement was made among members that the university has an obligation to provide quality instruction.
- New course/curriculum proposals
- ANT 3101 - Archaeology - send the votes by email to approve it.
- ANT 2000 - Introduction to Anthropology - to be voted for approval in the next meeting
- PHH 2000 -Introduction to Philosophy - returned for revisions X
- AMH 2020 - American History - Summary agreed, returned for revisions.
- LIS 2005 - Library and Internet Research skills - Returned for revision, pending
- EVR 2002 - Environmental Science - Returned for revision, pending
- ARH 3001 - Introduction to Art - Pending
- ENC 1101 - Composition I - Course content is well done, writing is the key focus. Pending for further discussion
The next meeting will be Monday, November 6 , 2006. The meeting was adjourned at 4:39 p.m.
