    1. Application Process Sub-committee - Sharon Geiger, Bill Hayden, John Hodgson, Diane Williams
      • The new web site for course proposals should be ready shortly. It is being developed by the computer programming staff from the Center for 21st Teaching Excellence. They will work with the Council to add or modify the form to meet the Council members' requirements. There will be an area for faculty to post their syllabi.

    2. Incentives - Scott Campbell, Bill Murray, Trevor Purcell, Nancy White
      • They are looking of ways to encourage departments/faculty to offer GE courses. Several issues were discussed in light of the current goal of getting some courses (20-30%) on line for fall 2006.Some of the items discussed included: should funding go to the faculty member who is developing the course or to the department that will offer the course? Should the funding be split between the department and the course proposer? Should the GEC set a priority on which courses should be submitted first (e.g., GE courses or Writing/Capstone courses?).

  3. Bob Potter distributed a paper by Carol A. Twigg, "Creating 'Small' Within "Large" to the council describing examples of how to deal with large classes in a way the author suggests is pedagogically sound but also may save costs.

The meeting was adjourned officially at 5:05 p.m. The next meeting will be Tuesday, October 18, 2005.
