The meeting was called to order at 3:37 pm.
- The minutes of October 4, 2005 were approved as submitted.
- Diane Williams gave the web site (www.c21th.usf.edu) one general/mock_up_links.htm structured course approval process.
- Clear distinctive between on-site and distance learning.
- Discussion of the web screens.
- Syllabus adapted to meet the needs of the course instruction.
- Send a note to the Provost regarding the syllabus statement.
- Send a note to subcommittee on the syllabus links for college site to Ram Pendyala. Discussion on syllabus followed.
- Bill Murray introduced Departmental Incentives', and how to get responses from as many units as possible.
- There are 400 courses in 60 departments, and an e-mail should be sent to every Chair. Chairs should respond as to which courses were eligible for the first year.
- Course proposals should be really clear, and reinforce that this is for course proposal submissions.
- Monies are for courses that "pass" certification.
- Bob Potter stated that we need incentives - good faith distribution at the start rather than once we have approved the course.
- Departments that are highly dependent on credit hours generation will want to offer lots of courses.
- We must avoid giving the impression that any course that is submitted be routinely or summarily approved, and the Chair should select one or two courses for submission.
- Incentive Program is to start the process. This is to test the waters.
- F of K&L core groups/teams of faculty need to work on these courses.
- Core curriculum foundations of things to be aware of:
- Courses may be certified in only one area and how do we handle interdisciplinary courses.
- There are five dimensions needed, but do we really want 3 of 5?
The next meeting will be Tuesday, November 1, 2005. The meeting was adjourned at 5:08 pm.
