Academic Success Center - About Us
The Academic Success Center is a free service provided by Project Thrust for all of its students. The ASC is located in MPD 007, where students can receive various forms of help with their course work. The ASC provides tutoring in most academic subjects, computer tutorials, word processing, and CLAST review. In addition, the ASC staff can provide students with information regarding other on-campus and off-campus services that may help them succeed in their academic and personal lives.
Every term, literally thousands of students find themselves having difficulty achieving satisfactory grades in their courses. The reasons for these problems are as varied as the students themselves, but the kind of one-on-one attention and support offered in the Academic Success Center can often make the difference between a passing or failing grade, between developing the skills necessary to complete college-level course work and struggling each term just to get by, or even between meeting the requirements for graduation or dropping out of college. The ASC is here for all students.
All services offered by the Academic Success Center are absolutely free of charge to any student registered at USF. The types of assistance available at the ASC can cost fifty dollars an hour or more elsewhere, but are absolutely free for USF students. It's quite a deal!
Project Thrust wants you to take the time to use the services of the ASC, to schedule appointments and meet with the tutors (though walk-ins are welcome) and to put forth a determined effort to succeed in your course work.
The ASC is open for more than fifty five hours every week. The tutors at the ASC are dedicated to helping you develop the skills you need to pass your courses on your own. They will not do the work for you or contribute directly to your grades, but they will work as long and hard as necessary to assist you in learning what you need to succeed on your own.
The ASC tries to offer tutoring in as many academic subjects as possible. However, the kinds of tutoring offered and the hours tutors are available are subject to demand, and a tutor request log is available in ASC for students to list the kinds of tutors they need. Records are reviewed periodically to determine the areas students are having the most difficulty. Rest assured, however, that tutors for most general education requirements and many specialized subjects will be available. A listing of tutors available is posted in our office. If you don't see what you need, ask us, and we will try to find it.
If you need help, simply come to the Academic Success Center in MPD 007, USF Tampa Campus. We will show you around, set up appointments, introduce you to a tutor, and help guide you to success as a college student.
