Student Support Services

The Student Support Services (SSS) Program is a federally funded grant program which provides academic support for a select group in college. Since the program began approximately twenty three years ago, Student Support Services has continued to significantly increase the retention and graduation rates of its program participants.

The program provides academic advising sessions, academic monitoring, classes, tutorial services, individual and group counseling, college survival seminars and activities that broaden career perspectives and enhance self-confidence. The Student Support Services Program is committed to providing appropriate services to maximize the academic potential for each student’s success at USF.

How to Qualify as a Participant
The Student Support Services program is designed for first time college students who have been identified as a first generation college student or with a low income family status, or an individual with a disability. These students may not meet all University admission criteria, but their high school records and standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) must indicate the potential for success in college. The Admissions Officer and the Program Director for Student Support Services will review the academic aptitude for students who may meet the participant criteria mentioned above.

Summer Program
The summer program is a required six week experience, which includes an extensive orientation and eight to twelve hour summer course curriculum, College Survival Seminars and various cultural activities.
