CLAS Advising - TL Hold
You have received the following e-mail:
Dear student,
Our records indicate you have not satisfied all portions of the College Level Academic Skills (CLAS) and
have registered or earned 36 or more hours of upper level credit. This has resulted in a TL CLAS hold on
your registration. As you may know, Florida Law (F.S. 229.053) and the University require all students to
satisfy all portions of CLAS BEFORE registering/earning 36 upper level hours (3000 and 4000 level courses).
If you have not met the CLAS requirement by: 1) earning a 2.5 GPA in specific courses, or 2) through high
enough SAT or ACT scores, your enrollment will be restricted to freshman and sophomore (1000 and 2000) level classes.
In other words, you are only allowed to earn 36 hours of upper level hours without passing or satisfying
all portions of CLAS. If you are currently enrolled in a course that will satisfy CLAS exemption criteria,
your hold will be removed after grades have been posted and you have successfully completed the course by
earning the necessary grade. You have questions regarding this hold please visit
http://www.ugs.usf.edu/student/clast/index.htm
for further information on CLAS or we strongly encourage you to speak with an academic advisor within
your college to determine how to satisfy the CLAS graduation requirement.
Again, if you have received a TL told by Oasis your enrollment is limited to taking only 1000 and 2000
level classes at the University until you comply with CLAS.
For further information, you must contact your college CLAST advisor. She or he will tell you how to satisfy the CLAST graduation requirement.
First, determine which college houses your major:
College of Arts and Sciences
Kim Williams, CLAST Advisor
Please contact her by e-mail at williams@cas.usf.edu
College of Behavioral and Community Sciences
Students may inquire about their CLAST status from their major advisor or Sass report.
A TL hold will not be lifted until student passes or exempts all portions of CLAST. The TL hold will limit students to registering for 1000/2000 level classes only until the requirement is met.
If student indicates a possible exemption (due to current coursework or other reason), he/she should send an email to BCS CLAST Coordinator, Beatrice L Smith at bsmith@bcs.usf.edu.
