University Experience SLS 1101 is a two credit elective course that is taught by faculty and staff who have received special training to assist students to plan their education and meet the demands of undergraduate study with the ultimate goal - to earn a degree. Based on the research, students who enroll in SLS 1101 have:

  • Higher G.P.A.
  • Higher Probability of Graduating
  • More Campus Engagement

Making the transition from high school to a major university is challenging, sometimes frightening and certainly exciting--all at the same time. The UE course at USF is a "Student Success Course" designed specifically for first-year students to welcome them to USF. This seminar course brings students together in small groups to discuss such topics as:

  • Electronic mail and Internet in academia
  • Career Exploration
  • Critical Thinking
  • Time Management
  • Campus Resources
  • USF Policies
  • Library Usage
  • Diversity
  • Health/Wellness

The typical UE class is built around four major themes:

  • Building community
  • Learning campus resources
  • Developing academic skills
  • Exploring character and values

We are proud of our University Experience program and hope it will become a valuable beginning to your college experience at the University of South Florida.
