USF Undergraduate Council - Minutes of Janurary 28, 2002

The meeting was called to order at 3:08 p.m.

1. The minutes of January 14, 2002, were not available for approval.

2. No announcements.

3. Course Proposal Review

   LAE 4XXX Classroom Communication - The objectives were written to meet the NCTE standards required of the program. All changes request were made. The course description was fixed. Following discussion, the course was approved.

   LAE 4469 - Tabled.

   ISM 4382 Global Information Systems - This course was previously offered as a selected topics course. It will be the only Internet issues course for the department. Following discussion, the course was approved.

4. Policy Discussion

   Plus/Minus Grading System - The Graduate Council will take up the review of the proposed change to an "A+" grade at the March meeting. The members of the Undergraduate Council discussed various aspects of the policy.

   • How many members of the Council would abolish the Plus/Minus Grading System? 5
   • How many like the Plus/Minus Grading System? 4
   • Should the use of the Plus/Minus Grading System be mandatory? Consensus is that it should be at the discretion of the instructor.
   • How many are in favor of the A+ equaling 4.33 points? 5 in favor; 1 against; 3 abstentions

5. New course proposals were distributed for the next meeting.

The next meeting will be Monday, February 11, 2002. The meeting was adjourned at 3:50 p.m.
