USF Undergraduate Council - Minutes of September 24, 2001

The meeting was called to order at 3:03 p.m.

1. The minutes of September 10, 2001, were approved with the change of wording in Item 1 to read "at a subsequent meeting" as submitted.

2. Announcements - Ram Pendyala will be the Chair of the meeting on October 8 meeting.

3. Course Proposal and Curriculum

   Art Department Revision - This proposal added requirements to the B.A. in Studio Art and the B.F.A. in Studio Art as well as making non-substantative changes to two courses. Following discussion, the curriculum revision was approved.

   EML 3041L Computational Methods Lab - This is the lab for EML 3041. The lecture and lab do not have to be taken in the same term. The separation of the lab from the lecture is a logical solution to the limited number of seats available in the lab. Following discussion, the course was approved.

   ISM 4141 Web Application Development - This course has been offered as a selected topics course and has been very popular with the students. Students in the program will be able to take either ISM 3244 or ISM 4141. Following discussion, the course was approved.

   The following Nursing courses were approved as submitted or with the corrections noted -

   • NUR 3806 Education Transitions for Registered Nurses - Change "Introduction" to "A transition to…."
   • NUR 4635L Integrated Nursing Clinical: Community/Public Health, Children and Adolescent Health, and Women's Health - This is an integrated clinical practice for NUR 4421, 4636, 4355.
   • NUR 3076 Fundamentals of Communication and Psycho-social Nursing Assessment with Individuals and Families
   • NUR 3125 Pathophysiology of Nursing Practice - chapter notes will be removed from the syllabus prior to submission to Tallahassee
   • NUR 4355 Child and Adolescent Health Nursing - spelling correction to be made in the course description
   • NUR 4421 Women's Health Nursing - spelling errors to be corrected
   • NUR 4935 Clinical Nutrition - needs a new course number, transmittal form, and syllabus needs more information

   HSC 2581 - Sex, Health, and Decision Making - This course is offered from a public health perspective to examine sexual behavior. It was approved with the certification for General Education - Social Sciences.

   PHC 4542 Stress, Health, and College Life - Following a brief discussion of the course, it was decided to table consideration.

4. Policy Discussion - The council discussed the Liberal Arts requirements briefly. It was decided to invite John Richmond and Carol Jablonski (former chairs of the General Education Council) to a meeting in October to discuss Liberal Arts.

The next meeting will be Monday, October 8, 2001. The meeting was adjourned at 4:48 p.m.
