The meeting was called to order at 3:09 p.m.
- The minutes of October 14, 2002 were approved with one correction.
- Announcements
Glen Besterfield will contact the Faculty Senate and the Provost's Office for further information regarding the Academic Grievance subcommittee and the Plus/Minus subcommittee.
- Review of Course and Curriculum Change Proposals
- ECH 4936 Undergraduate Professional Development Seminar
This course provides an introduction to the chemical engineering profession. Following discussion, this course was approved pending a change in the title to Undergraduate Seminar.
- ENC 3211 Communication for Engineers
The Information Technology Program requests that the English Department course ENC 3211, Communication for Engineers, be approved as a course and Liberal Arts Exit Requirement in the IT curriculum. Following discussion, this request was approved.
- IDS 3668 Image of Contemporary Urban Culture
This course offers multiple perspectives on the vision, theories, and practices of contemporary urban culture thorough the use of various literary genres. Examines the cultural realities of contemporary urban life, such as social stratification, discontinuity, anonymity and poverty; as well as its many potentials such as creative energy, diversity, and relational networks. Following discussion, this course was approved as meeting the Literature and Writing Exit Requirement pending a deletion of the first sentence of the syllabus description. The title was changed from "Images of Culture of the Modern World" to "Images of Contemporary Urban Culture. This course is not approved as meeting Social Science or Historical Perspectives general course requirements.
- ISS 1103 Nature and Culture
This course examines the role that nature and the concept of the natural play in Western society. This proposal requests that ISS 1103 meet the Historical Perspectives requirement. Following discussion, this course was tabled.
- PHI 1600 Introduction to Ethics
This course examines the history of moral philosophy from Socrates to Nietzsche. This proposal requests that PHI 1600 meet the Historical Perspectives requirement. Following discussion, this request was approved.
Behavioral Healthcare Minor
This minor course of study will be offered by the College (Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute) and not by the individual Departments within the Institute. The undergraduate minor in behavioral healthcare is available for students interested in pursuing careers in conjunction with any undergraduate major. Following discussion and minor changes, this minor was approved.
- MHS 4002 Behavioral Health Systems Delivery
This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the significant issues and trends in behavioral health delivery systems in America. Following discussion, this course was approved with minor revisions.
- MHS 4407 Exemplary Practices in Behavioral Healthcare Treatment
This course explores exemplary clinical practices in public behavioral healthcare service delivery. Following discussion and minor changes, this course was approved pending receipt of a new syllabus.
- MHS 4829 Field Experience in Behavioral Healthcare
This experiential class allows the student to observe and participate with multidisciplinary staff of a provider agency. Following discussion, this course was approved.
- Assignment of Course Proposals
There are no new course proposals at this time.
The next meeting will be Monday, November 25, 2002. The meeting was adjourned at 4:31 p.m
