The meeting was called to order at 3:12 p.m.
- The minutes of January 12, 2004 were approved with minor revisions.
- Announcements/Discussions
Glen Besterfield is the Undergraduate Council representative for the ad hoc committee for retention based upon a possible tracking system.
- New course/curriculum proposals
- Spanish Minor
The minor course requirements for Spanish needed to be updated to correspond with actual course offerings in the department of World Language Education. Following discussion, the changes were approved with one abstention. The minor changes reflect the changes that were also made to the Spanish major.
- Track in International Studies with a Language and Business Concentration
The major course requirements for the Track in International Studies need to be changed in order to correspond with actual course offerings in the department of World Language Education. Following discussion, the changes were approved with one abstention.
- Spanish with an International Studies and Business Concentration
The major course requirements for the Spanish with an International Studies and Business Concentration need to be changed in order to correspond with actual course offerings in the department of World Language Education. Following discussion, the changes were approved with one abstention.
- PSY 2012 Psychological Science I - TABLED
- ARC 2701 Architectural History I
This course is an overview of the built environment from prehistory through the Middle Ages. Following discussion, this course was approved as a new course meeting the Fine Arts and Historical Perspectives requirements.
- ARC 2702 Architectural History II
This course is an overview of the built environment from the Middle Ages to the present. Following discussion, this course was approved as a new course meeting the Fine Arts and Historical Perspectives requirements.
- K-12 Physical Education Program
The Physical Education department has been required by the Florida Department of Education to change the K-8 and 6-12 teacher certification programs to a K-12 program. Following discussion, this program change was approved with two opposing and one abstaining vote.
- FLE 4366 ESOL 1 - Curriculum and Pedagogy of ESOL
This course is designed to prepare pre-professional (pre-service) teachers to provide linguistically and culturally appropriate instruction, learning opportunities and assessment for English Language Learners (ELLs) in grades K-12. Following discussion, this course was approved.
- FLE 4367 ESOL 2 - Literacy Development in English Language Learners
This course is designed to provide students with a critical understanding of instructional delivery which caters to the linguistic and literacy needs of minority/heritage communities. Following discussion, this course was approved.
- FLE 4368 ESOL 3 - Applying Linguistics to ESOL Teaching and Testing
This course provides an overview of the components of language, linking them to methods and techniques of providing comprehensible instruction to English Language Learners (ELLs) and supports the development of professional literacy skills. Following discussion, this course was approved.
- PET 3012 Professional Development in Physical Education I
This is the first of a two course sequence of orientation and socialization into the profession and is intended to develop dispositions necessary for successful professional practice. Following discussion, this course was approved.
- PET 3013 Professional Development in Physical Education II
This is the second of a two-course sequence of orientation and socialization into the profession and is intended to develop dispositions necessary for successful professional practice. Following discussion, this course was approved.
- PET 3621C Prevention of Athletic Injuries
This course is an overview course including basic components of the athletic training profession including the prevention, recognition and evaluation and immediate care of athletic injuries. Following discussion, the change in course title was approved.
- PET 4609C Advanced Athletic Training
This course is an advanced techniques course in athletic training including orthopedic assessment, casting and bracing and imaging techniques. Following discussion, this course was approved.
- PET 4933 Seminar in Sports Medicine
This course is an advanced study course in writing and the discussion of topics and issues related to the field of athletic training. Emphasis is on professional preparation, credentialing, governance, ethics, and scope of practice. Following discussion, changes in credit hours, prerequisites and liberal arts certifications (Gordon and LW) were approved.
- NUR 4097 Registered Nurse First Assistant Course
This course will provide a foundation of knowledge and technical skills necessary for the experienced perioperative registered nurse to function in the role of registered nurse first assistant (RNFA). Following discussion, this course was approved.
- NUR 4940 Internship for the Registered Nurse First Assistant
This course provides 120 hours of clinical experiences in the roles and responsibilities and technical skills required of the registered nurse first assistant (RNFA). Following discussion, this course was approved.
The next meeting will be Monday, February 23, 2004. The meeting was adjourned at 4:24 p.m.
