The meeting was called to order at 3:02 p.m.
- The minutes of September 13, 2004 were approved as submitted.
- Announcements/Discussions
- The Academic Grievance policy will be discussed at the next Undergraduate Council meeting.
- Stuart Silvermann and Robert Potter gave a presentation on the QEP General Education policies.
- New course/curriculum proposals
- College of Business Administration - change to limited access requirements for COBA and School of Accountancy - TABLED
- ECH 4751 Engineering of Biological Systems
This course is designed to convey the basics of biological systems and the roles that engineers play in industrial biology to engineering students (primarily) and to students that are majoring in other sciences. Following discussion, this course was approved.
- ECH 4824 Introduction to Materials Science
This course is an introduction to the main families of materials and principles behind their design, selection, development and behavior. Following discussion, this course was approved.
- ESE 4340 Classroom Management for Diverse School and Society
This course focuses on classroom management in secondary schools including classroom climate, specific strategies to address management issues, school safety, violence, diversity, ethics and educational law. Following discussion, this course was approved.
- IT General Minor
The IT General Minor is aimed at providing a good understanding of the concepts underlying the Information Technology while enabling the student to choose four elective topics in which to specialize. Following discussion, this minor was approved.
- IT Technical Minor
The IT Technical Minor is aimed at providing a conceptual understanding of the IT field while developing programming skills. Following discussion, this minor was approved.
- NUR 3026 Fundamentals of Nursing Practice and Foundations
This course involves the fundamentals and foundations of nursing practice. The focus is on developing critical thinking and communication skills when applying concepts of health to meet the basic needs of the individual across the life span form within the context of the family. Following discussion, changes in credit hours and course description were approved.
- NUR 3026L Fundamentals of Nursing Clinical
This course involves the fundamentals of clinical nursing practice. The focus is on developing effective communication and critical thinking in applying nursing processes to meet the basic needs of the individual across the life span. Following discussion, changes to the course description were approved.
- PSY 4401 Drugs and Behavior
This course is a basic introduction to drugs and their effects on society and behavior. Specifically, drug regulations and laws will be covered as well as how drugs interact with the brain to alter consciousness. Following discussion, this course was approved contingent upon the addition of learning outcomes and a change in instructor qualifications.
- SLS 4273 Theories of Leadership
This course focuses on historical and modern views of leadership. It is designed to assist students in establishing a general understanding of leadership theories and styles as well as the effects of various leadership theories in specific settings. Following discussion and changes to instructor qualifications, the revised course description and addition of Historical Perspectives qualification was approved.
- SPA 4970 Honors Thesis
In this course, the student, under the supervision of a Faculty member will formalize, conduct, analyze and report in writing a research project in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. Following discussion, this course was approved pending a review of the credit hours.
- SYP 4550 Drugs and Society
This course explores the social construction of substance use in the United States. It examines individual users and the popular perspectives on the causes of substance use and abuse such as the medical, psychoanalytic, and sociological models. Following discussion, this course was approved.
- Social Science Education
Social Science Education is removing EDG 4620: Curriculum and Instruction from their program. This proposal was voted on via an email discussion and approved.
- English Education
English Education is removing EDG 4620: Curriculum and Instruction from their program. The program is adding a new Classroom Management course to the program of study. This proposal was voted on via an email discussion and approved.
