The meeting was called to order at 3:00 p.m.
- The minutes of September 12, 2005 were approved without the electronic distribution statement.
- New course/curriculum proposals
- Art History
The School of Art and Art History would like to offer a minor in Art History for those students wishing to complement their major studies with selections in the School's range of courses from Classical to Contemporary Art. Courses include lecture, seminar, research and studio. Following discussion, this minor was approved.
- AS to BS - Public Health
The Bachelor of Science in Applied Science (BSAS) Degree is a Bachelor's degree program designed specifically for Associate in Science (A.S.) degree graduates from a Florida public community college. This concentration is in Public Health. Following discussion, BSAS, Concentration in Public Health was approved.
- Criminology
The Criminology minor has changed the minor requirements to include the department's two "D" rule, meaning only one D or F will be allowed for completion of the minor. Following discussion, this change in the minor requirements was approved.
- ECH 3702 Instrument Systems
This course involves basic concepts of electric circuits and their applications. Following discussion, changes in curriculum, prerequisites and credit hours were approved.
- ECH 4323C Automatic Control I
This course involves the modeling of process dynamics and the simulation of dynamic systems. Following discussion, changes in curriculum, prerequisites and credit hours were approved.

- ECH 4845 Quantitative Methods in Chemical Engineering
The proposed course involves the modeling and analysis of chemical engineering systems. Following discussion, changes in curriculum, prerequisites and credit hours were approved.
- EVR 2002 Environmental Science: Regional and Global Issues
The proposed course will provide students with an understanding of the scientific principles underlying today’s global environmental problems and their potential solutions. Students will examine how our social, political and economic systems affect the environment. Following discussion and minor changes, this course was approved as a new course meeting the Natural Science general education requirement.
- EVR 4210 Karst Environments
The objective of the proposed course is to provide an understanding of the scientific principles pertaining to karst environments in Florida and around the world. Both physical processes and human interactions/impacts will be examined. This course is not restricted to majors and is not repeatable. Following discussion and minor changes, this course was approved as a new course meeting the Natural Science general education requirement.
- EVR 4212 Climate Change
The objective of the proposed course is to provide an understanding of the scientific principles pertaining to global and regional climate change. Both mechanisms causing the change and human impacts on climate will be examined. This course is not restricted to majors and is not repeatable. Following discussion and minor changes, this course was approved as a new course meeting the Natural Science general education requirement.
- General Public Health Minor
The goal of the General Public Health Minor is to develop in a broad range of students an understanding and appreciation of the field of Public Health. Following discussion, this minor was approved.
- GEO 4287 Water Resources Management
The proposed course involves geographic perspectives on water resources management at the global, national and local scale, including political, socio-economic, technical and scientific aspects. Following discussion and minor changes, this course was approved as a new course meeting the Natural Science general education requirement.
- GET 3290 Fantastic Films of Early German Cinema
The proposed course is an overview of early 20th century German films with emphasis on horror, science fiction, and fantasy films. Course offers insights into Germany’s artistic, intellectual, and social history, as well as general film history and criticism. This course is taught in English. Following discussion and minor changes, this course was approved as a new course meeting Major Works/Major Issues, and the Historical Perspectives general education requirement.
- Latin American and Caribbean Studies
The Latin American and Caribbean Studies B.A. will provide students with a multi-disciplinary understanding of Latin America, the Caribbean, and Latinos in the United States. The program will encourage transnational, interdisciplinary, and comparative study designed to develop a more profound understanding of the differences among political, economic, social, and cultural systems developed within the Americas. Following discussion, the proposal for a new Bachelor of Arts in Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino Studies (BALACALS) was approved.
- Naval Science and Leadership Minor
This program is designed to provide the student with an in-depth understanding of Naval leadership doctrine and the fundamental principles by which Navy and Marine Corps leaders act to accomplish their mission. The minor lays out a framework by which the Navy and Marine Corps conduct routine operations and planning and it also provides a foundation in design theory with a practical application to naval platforms and weapon systems. Special emphasis is placed on character development and effective communication skills. Following discussion, this minor was approved with one abstention.
- Psychology - establish pre-admission GPA of 2.5
The Psychology admissions requirements have been changed. To be admitted to the major in Psychology, the student must complete all of the course prerequisites, including (1) PSY 2012 Introduction to Psychological Science or equivalent and (2) Statistics (PSY 3024 Psychological Statistics is preferred) with grades of C (not C-) or higher. Continuation in the major requires successful completion of those two courses plus PSY 3213, Research Methods in Psychology, with at least a grade of C (not C-) and have a grade point average for those three courses of 2.5 or higher.
- REL 3150 In Search of the Goddess
The proposed course explores Goddess religion/sacred Feminine, from prehistory, to the pagan Near East and Mediterranean, Western monotheistic religions, pluralistic religions of the East, and revivals of Goddess spirituality in contemporary Europe/N. America. Following discussion and minor changes, this course was approved as a new course meeting ALAMEA, Historical Perspectives and Social Science general education requirements.
- SYA 3201 Social Problems Through Film
The proposed course examines, through films, how sociologists define and study social problems, and investigates the role of the popular media in the construction of social problems. Explores the solutions aimed at social problems in a comparative, international perspective. Following discussion and minor changes, this course was approved.
- Women's Spirituality
The undergraduate Certificate in Women's Spirituality is designed through the collaboration of Women’s Studies and Religious Studies for majors in any field who wish to understand women’s experience in relation to diverse spiritualities, past and present. This program is intended for all students who have an interest in spirituality and personal growth. Following discussion, this certificate was approved.
