The meeting was called to order at 3:05 p.m.
- The minutes of March 26, 2007 were approved with amendments.
- Discussion:
UGC Operations
The Undergraduate Council discussed what makes a course change substantive or non-substantive and whether the chair of the Council is involved with the decision. Since all course proposals, substantive changes and non-substantive changes appear on the UGC website, members requested that plans be made to set up a projector in future UGC meetings to assist in reviewing the courses and course changes .
- Review of course/curriculum proposals:
- PHH 3420 Early Modern Philosophy ----- was Approved.
This course comprises a survey of Western Philosophy from the end of the Renaissance to the beginnings of the Enlightenment. The course was approved by all the members in the meeting.
- PHH 3440 Late Modern Philosophy ----- was Approved.
This course focuses on a survey of Western Philosophy during the Enlightenment. This course was approved by all the members in the meeting.
- HSC 4020 Foundations of Food Safety------------ was Approved.
This course provides an overview of food safety practices and principles emphasizing the role of food safety in public health. Topics include proper food handling procedures, food safety hazards, food borne illness prevention, and food safety regulations. This course was approved by all the members in the meeting.
- REA 1206 Advanced Reading --------was Approved.
This course focuses on a broad array of reading strategies to help students enhance comprehension skills as well as develop the fundamentals of critical analysis through the application of a strategic-reflective reading model. The course was approved by all.
- REA 1305 Reading Lab ----------was Approved.
The course focuses on the development of a systematic approach for increasing reading comprehension, rate, and vocabulary as well as adjusting rate and technique to adapt to a variety of materials and purposes. The course is open to all students and is repeatable up to 3 credits. The course was approved by all.
- Social Science Education - Program Revision ----------was Approved by all.
- GEY 4329 Regulatory and Clinical Operations ----------was Tabled.
- GEY 4340 Retirement and LTC Housing for the Elderly ----------was Tabled.
- CAP 4034 Computer Animation Fundamentals ----------was Tabled.
- COP 2270 Programming in C for Engineers ----------was Tabled.
- Information Security Concentration. ----------was Tabled.
The council members stated there was the need for more discussion and/or representation by proposers for the tabled items.
The next meeting will be Monday, April 23rd, 2007. The meeting was adjourned at 4:50 p.m.
