The meeting was called to order at 3:10 p.m.
- The minutes of September 11, 2006 were approved as submitted.
- New course/curriculum proposals
- Biomedical Sciences Degree Change - Tabled until October 9th UGC meeting.
- Chemistry Degree Change - Tabled until October 9th UGC meeting
- Criminology - Honors Program
The purpose of the Honors Program is to provide a select group of undergraduate Criminology majors an opportunity to undertake an intensive individualized research experience. Following discussion, this concentration was approved.
- Electronic Music (B.M. program)
This concentration is in the rapidly growing area of Electronic Music. The primary difference between the Music Composition BM and this Electronic Music BM is the Music Composition concentration has a 2/3 focus on Acoustic Music Composition and a 1/3 focus on Electronic Music Composition, whereas the Electronic Music concentration has a 2/3 focus on Electronic Music Composition and a 1/3 focus on Acoustic Music Composition. Essentially the Music Composition concentration requires only the basic courses in Electronic Music, but advanced courses in Music Composition; whereas the Electronic Music concentration requires only basic courses in Music Composition, but advanced courses in Electronic Music. Following discussion, this concentration was approved.
- CIS 4364 Cryptology and Information Security
This course covers the fundamentals of computer security. The following topics are addressed: Network Security, Cryptography, Access Control, Security Architecture and Models, Applications and Systems Development, Vulnerability Assessment. Following discussion, this course was approved.
- COP 3331 Object Oriented Software Design
This course covers the design of a computer program using an Object-Oriented programming language. Extension of programming knowledge from a procedural language to an object-oriented language, and analysis of program requirements. Following discussion, this course was approved.
- COT 4115 Advanced Discrete Structures with Cryptology
This course involves advanced topics in discrete mathematics: number theory, groups, rings and fields, finite fields, and combinatorics, as applied to computer systems. Theoretical application of mathematic concepts to coding theory and cryptology. Following discussion, this course was approved.
- INR 3016 Globalization - Tabled until October 9th UGC meeting
- ITA 2201 Italian IV
This course marks a fourth level in the acquisition of Italian language. It continues to encourage students to speak, listen, read, and write in the target language through frequent communicative activities. Following discussion, this course was approved.
- ITT 3111 Introduction to Italian Studies
This course is an overview of Italian culture from the Unification to the present. It aims at tracing the ways in which the concept of Italian culture has been defined according to different social, historical, and political perspectives. Taught in English. Following discussion and a title change to Italian Cultural Studies, this course was approved as a new course meeting Historical Perspectives and Major Works/Major Issues liberal arts certification.
