The meeting was called to order at 3:04pm.
- The minutes of January 12, 1998 were approved as submitted.
- Announcements - Lois Gonzalez requested that members of the council meet with Associate Dean Candidate Roslyn Muraskin on Thursday, January 29th or Friday, January 30th during the open session.
- Discussion and action on proposals
- Western European Studies Certificate
The certificate program has been designed to give students course work that provides a general background/range to modern European studies. The title of the certificate is: Modern Western European Studies. This certificate program offers a wide variety of courses within the Arts and Sciences. Similar certificate programs are offered at various other univeristies. The certificate program was approved with the following corrections: Pg. 3 (C) EUH 3206 History of the 20th Century, Pg. 4 (F) FRE 3440 French for Business, ITA 3500 Italian Civilization does not exist, Pg. 5 (F) SPN 3441 Advanced Spanish for Business Writing.
- ANT 4401 Exploring Cross-Cultural Diversity
This course is designed to meet the needs o students with no background in Anthropology and to meet Exit Requirements. Instructors will teach the course by applying a daily living approach. Course approved with the addition of "for non-majors only" to the course description.
- Undergraduate Honors Program in Sociology
Rescheduled to the February 9th meeting.
- ANT 4148 Fantastic Archaeology: Myths and Mysteries
Fantastic Archaeology provides material not previously covered in any other Archaeology course. It is not designed for anthropology majors. The course is an exercise in critical thinking. The council suggested that the course numbering be reduced from 4000 level to keep consistency with other universities with similar courses. New proposal should be submitted to show courses correct title: "Fantastic Archaeology: Mysteries of the Human Past." Course was approved with the new title.
The next meeting will be Monday, February 9, 1998. The meeting was adjourned at 3:55pm.
