The meeting was called to order at 3:08pm.
- The minutes of March 23, 1998 were approved as submitted.
- No announcements.
- Discussion and action on proposals
- CCJ 4316 Correctional Administration and Law
This course provides students with an introduction to legal and administrative issues in both institutional and community corrections. Title change from: Correctional Administration. This course was approved with two abstentions.
- Change in Degree requirements for Criminal Justice
Tabled until Fall 1998.
- INR 3054 International Human Rights
This course explores the evolution of international rights from the Greeks to the present and examines human rights issues in major regions of the world. This course is proposed as an exit requirement in order to meet student demand. This course was approved.
- DAN 4111 Dance History through the 19th Century
Designed for majors and non-majors, this course will present a comprehensive view of the evolution of dance as an art form from its origins through the 19th Century. It is designed to develop awareness and insight through lecture, discussion, video, observation and writing. The course was approved.
- DAN 4112 20th Century Dance
Designed for majors and non-majors, this course will trace the development of dance as an art form in the 20th Century. It is designed to develop awareness and insight through lecture, discussion, video, observation and writing. Students will be required to attend at least two dance performances. The course was approved.
- Dance Performance (BFA)
- Dance Studies (BA)
Changes to the degree requirements for Dance were approved.
- New Art Education Curriculum
Tabled until Fall 1998.
- REL 3147 Native American Religions
This course is an introduction to and survey of Native American Religions. A variety of perspectives will be utilized, including anthropological, historical, social psychological, sociological, and philosophical. The course was approved pending concurrence from Anthropology.
- Graduation with Honors
A proposal to change the current Graduation with Honors was approved with a modification to the number of hours required to meet this requirement. The Council members felt that at least one-third of a student's degree would need to be taken at USF to receive honors at graduation from USF.
- Academic Renewal
A revised policy for Academic Renewal was presented to the Council. This new policy will replace the old policies on Academic Amnesty and Academic Salvage. Following a brief discussion, the Council members approved this new proposal.
- Election of New Chair
John Robison, College of Fine Arts, was elected chair of the Undergraduate Council for the next academic year.
