USF Undergraduate Council - Minutes of September 22, 1997

The meeting was called to order at 3:05pm.

1. The minutes of September 8, 1997 were approved as submitted.

2. No announcements.

3. Discussion and action on proposals

   • COP 4313 Symbolic Computation in Mathematics
   • EML 4414 Heat Power Engineering
     These courses were tabled until changes are made in the course objectives and syllabi.

   • LIT 4000 Literature as Cultural Artifact
     The following changes were recommended: instructor qualifications (7f) must be changed to require a Ph.D.; course number changed to LIT 4300; and title will be changed Literature as Cultural Study; and enrollment to be targeted at 25. The course was approved with one vote against.

   • EDF 4111 Child Growth & Learning
     This course is for students in the Early Childhood Program and will be taken with Level 1 Internship (in pre-schools) during their first semester in the program. The course was approved.

   • PET 3640 Adapted Physical Education, Cultural and Ethical Issues
   • GLY 4154 The Geology and Development of Modern Africa
     Following discussion, both courses were tabled.

   • Urban Studies Certificate
     This certificate is part of an effort to put more focus on urban disciplines and to develop initiatives in the community. The certificate requires 24 or 25 credits to complete. With changes in course titles and numbers, the proposal was approved with one abstention.

   • Physics Minor
     The recommended physics minor will require a minimum of 19 credit hours of approved physics courses. The proposal was approved.

   • Dance Minor, DAA 2160 Modern Dance, DAA 2260 Ballet I, DAN 2933 Entry Seminar
     The Dance Minor, DAA 2160 and DAA 2260 were approved. DAN 2933 was tabled until criteria for participation are rewritten.

   • DAA 1100 Fundamentals of Modern I, DAA 3--- Dance Kinesiology, DAN 3--- Introduction to Laban Movement Analysis, DAE 4--- Dance Pedagogy: Preschool and Elementary Methods, DAE 4--- Dance Pedagogy: Secondary Curriculum and Methods
     These courses will be reviewed at the October 13 meeting.

4. No new course proposals.

The next meeting will be Monday, October 13, 1997. The meeting was adjourned at 5:00pm.
