The meeting was called to order at 3:05 p.m.
- The minutes of January 11, 1999 were approved as submitted.
- Announcements - On January 20, 1999, the Faculty Senate approved the Undergraduate Council's proposal for incorporating the functions of the old General Education Council with those of the Undergraduate Council.
Plus/Minus Grading System - The Banner student information system allows the use of plus/minus grades. Jim Eison will be asked to address the Council on plus/minus grades. He has done extensive research on plus/minus grades.
- Discussion and action on proposals
- WST 3440 Women and Social Action - This course has been taught since 1995 as a selected topics course. It is 24 one-hour programs broadcast on Channel 16. Following discussion, the course was approved.
- COM 4025 Health Communication (Now 4022) - this course explores communication issues relevant to health, disease, and illness. It has been offered twice as a selected topics course. Following discussion, the course was approved.
- GEO 4140 Remote Sensing of the Environment, GEO 4142 Geographic Information Systems, GEO 4444 Biogeography - Discussion of these courses was deferred without prejudice until the Council receives the rest of the Geography courses and program revision.
- GEY 4340 Housing for the Elderly - This course has been taught as a selected topics course for a number of years. It deals with major issues and aspects of conventional and planning housing for the elderly. Following discussion, the course was approved.
- GEY 4647 Ethical and Legal Issues in Aging - The course focuses on the bioethical aspects of aging. It is team taught by Wiley Mangum (Gerontology) and Paul Stiles (FMHI). Following disucssion the course was approved.
- GEY 4322 Gerontological Case Management - This course examines the role and function of case management in meeting the care needs of the elderly. The course was approved with the stipulation that the signature page be corrected.
- GEY 3006 Services and Careers in Aging - Following discussion, action on this couse was deferred .
- New course proposals were assigned to council members for review.
The next meeting will be Monday, February 8, 1999. The meeting was adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
