The meeting was called to order at 3:10 p.m.
- The minutes of December 13, 1999 were approved.
- Announcements
Dr. Wienker announced that in the 2000-2001 catalog, the plagiarism statement will include a reference to web-site and e-mail plagiarism.
The Council discussed details of +/- grading scale and whether or not the C- will count as a passing grade in reference to courses that require a 2.0 or above in order to pass. Discussion on this item will continue at next meeting.
Richard Dietrich would like to make changes in the Undergraduate Council Course forms. Following discussion, the Council recommended that Dietrich draft the form changes and submit them for review.
- Review of Course Proposals
- ENV 4891 Capstone Environmental Engineering Design - This course is a capstone environmental design experience for seniors in Civil and Environmental Engineering. It is a design-oriented course to design both industrial and domestic water treatment and water transport systems and wastewater and collection systems. The course emphasizes the design procedure normally used in engineering practice. Now that engineering students are allowed to take two major works/major issues courses within their college, the Department wishes to have this course approved as a major works/major issues course. Following discussion, it was approved as meeting the MW/MI exit requirements.
- CEG 4850 Capstone Geotechnical/ Transportation Design - This course is a capstone geotechnical/ transportation design experience for seniors in Civil and Environmental Engineering. It involves the design of embankments, pavement bases, comprehensive surface streets, as well as open highway intersection and site design involving functional design, facility sizing, complete alignments and coordination, plan preparation, site layout and design, quantity summarization, bid tab planning, and specification preparation. Now that engineering students are allowed to take two major works/major issues courses within their college, the Department wishes to have this course approved as a major works/major issues course. Following discussion, it was approved as meeting the MW/MI exit requirements.
- CWR 4812 Capstone Water Resource Design - This course is a capstone water resources design experience for seniors in Civil and Environmental Engineering. It is a design oriented course to design both industrial and domestic water treatment, water transport systems and hydraulic systems, including drainage, water supply, and flood control. Now that engineering students are allowed to take two major works/major issues courses within their college, the Department wishes to have this course approved as a major works/major issues course. Following discussion, it was approved as meeting the MW/MI exit requirements.
- CES 4740 Capstone Structural/ Geotechnical/ Material Design - This course is a capstone structural/ geotechnical/ materials design experience for seniors in Civil and Environmental Engineering. It involves the design of structures and foundations made of steel and reinforced concrete. Now that engineering students are allowed to take two major works/major issues courses within their college, the Department wishes to have this course approved as a major works/major issues course. Following discussion, it was approved as meeting the MW/MI exit requirements.
- HIS 3938 Issues in History - This course provides an exposure to the discipline of history by examining a specific historical issue and its relation to at least one of the following dimensions: gender, race and ethnicity, international perspectives, or environmental perspectives. Following discussion, a change in title and catalog description, as well as the designation of not repeatable for credit, it was approved as meeting the MW/MI exit requirements.
The next meeting will be Monday, February 14, 2000. The meeting was adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
