Duties:
The Upward Bound Program at the University of South Florida is seeking to fill three academic advising positions. The USF Upward Bound Program (a federally funded grant program) serves 130 students from 10 area high schools. Reporting to the program director, advisors assist with planning and implementing counseling and academic programs and activities designed to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of post secondary education.
Advisors conduct recruitment presentations at target schools; interview applicants; evaluates applications using established selection criteria as defined by the U.S. Department of Education to determine student eligibility for participation in Upward Bound; provide academic, personal, career, college access preparation and financial aid counseling to students and their families; help participants with identification of long term goals and career plans; maintain advising records and confidential evaluation records; assess participants' academic and personal needs using various tools, and provides appropriate counseling and referrals; assist with planning and implementing academic enrichment activities including college visits and community service; organize field trips, cultural activities, reunions and other program activities.
Advisors must develop and maintain rapport with target school personnel such as principals, guidance counselors, faculty and staff during weekly visits to target schools; prepare and submit monthly progress reports for the compilation of the U.S. Department of Education Annual Performance Report and other reports as required by the university.
Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or other related field and two years work experience.
Preferred Qualifications: experience with high school counseling, pre-college/college access programs, or programs with objectives similar to Upward Bound; experience working with low-income, first-generation students; strong communication and effective presentation skills with middle and high school students, and adult learners; experience building community partnerships, promoting education and networking skills is a plus: proficiency using software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
Upward Bound programming requires staff to work June through mid-August. Annual leave must be taken at other times. Some evening and weekend work is required. Reliable transportation is a necessity as advisors spend a majority of business days in target schools.

Duties:
The Upward Bound Program at the University of South Florida is seeking to fill the Office Manager position. The USF Upward Bound Program (a federally funded grant program) serves 130 students from 10 area high schools. Reporting to the program director; office manager will establish and maintain internal office procedures for efficient operations; develop and maintain efficient records management system to support and ensure that proper fiscal management procedures are followed.
Office Manager will maintain and reconcile department budget book with department print out of all budget categories; maintain accounting system; assist in budgetary planning and compile data for budget projections; provides director with regular budget status reports; prepares and certifies on-line payroll for program staff; obtains and verifies appropriate signatures of UBP staff required for processing of documents; maintain files and accurate accounting of students' records; ensure that travel requests and reimbursements comply with university policy and procedures; prepares and approves online payroll certifications, reviews and reconciles payroll registers, and updates pay distribution; serves as the local point of contact on payroll issues; keep abreast of rules and regulations governing university operational procedures.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or higher, two years prior experience in office work, proficiency in typing; knowledge of English Grammar and spelling; letter format and knowledge or modern office practices and procedures; proficiency using software programs including GEMs, FAST, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
